Happy Mother’s day to all the mums out there I hope you all
have a nice day you deserve it.
A Nice view over Glass House Mt |
and another |
One more |
After doing some sightseeing around the Sunshine coast (Montville, Maroochydore, Nambour etc etc) for a few days we headed
of again in search of our next stop for the night which we found beside a nice
little river at Widgee just outside Gympie, we then headed for Tin Can Bay to
get back to the coast. We put the van in a caravan park and did some sightseeing
around the area. Lovely beach at Rainbow beach and some nice walks to look at
the natural figures, (passed on Fraser island this time around opted to save
some $ and stay on the main land).

Sand drift |
The water was crystal clear and this big eel came looking for a feed |
We then headed further north and stopped at Goodwood (outside
Childers) then headed to 1770.
Great spot excellent unrestricted view of the sun going down
from out site next to the beach. A bit of OZ’s history such a reality check
when you view the spot where Captain Cook came ashore some 230 odd years ago to
check out the real estate. How things have changed! So far our dearest night’s
accom @ $42.
This was the view from home |
It just got better |
After 1770 we probably needed to recoup some $’s so we stopped for a
couple days beside Lake Awoonga south of Gladstone. While we were there we
needed to do some physical activity so we went for a walk
along an old train track that was very over grown with long grass, Di could
have used one of those orange vehicle flags poles so I could see her. After
nearly planting my foot on top of a Red Belly Black snake I thought I better find a stick
and make some more noise as we went, really good walk though - 9km.
The old train line to Monto next to Lake Awoonga |
We had a text from a good friend that lives in Bendigo to
say that her brother was cycling up our way and that we could run into them.
Well as it turned out we were heading towards the next nights camp when we came
upon two cyclist with trailers and their dog. Wow what are the odds! As it could easily have been different - we stopped
at a lake earlier to have lunch but decided to push on. Neil had changed his intinenary to
make use of the tail wind and decided to go on the same road we chose.
The grass is a little out of control |
We had a nice arvo comparing gear, water, camping spots, events
and the faithful toilet facility horrors.
After talking to Neil and Janet I am staggered to wonder how you can
comprehend to do what they are going to do. Shoot up to Cairns, hang a left
towards Tennent Creek head back to Melbourne via Alice Springs, on your bike, with Kouda (the Dog which has done 22,000 kms ) in his trailer. In
the morning we said our goodbyes they pedalled off one direction and we headed off
to Rockhampton.
